Top Tablets for 2011 - Best Sellers, Best Performance, Best Features & More
As we enter the new year, let's look back at the top tablets for 2011 according to PC World Australia. Does your tablet make it on the list?
PC World Australia has made a list of the top tablets for 2011 and published these under their category of Editor's Choice. These 5 selections represent the top choices of the PC World Australia editorial team. Topping the list this year is one of the best selling tablets on the market today, the Apple iPad 2. This tablet is a hands down winner in terms of consumer sales, but it is getting some competition from other tablets as well.
The top 5 list also included 4 models which run Android Honeycomb, including the super thin Galaxy Tab 10.1. Also making the list of top tablets are the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer and the Acer Iconia A500.
All of these tablets were tested by PC World Australia to the highest standards in order to ensure that readers receive the best possible recommendations. The editors at PC World Australia work hard to ensure that all of the tablets were evaluated according to equal standards. Some of the basic criteria used to review tablets include value, performance, features and design.
Each product is rated according to a five star scale, with 5 stars being the most recommended. The reviewers had lots of good things to say about the iPad 2, which is thinner, lighter and faster than the original iPad. However, they do note that Apple has not managed to fix many of the flaws which were present in the original model.
The iPad 2 made the list of top tablets thanks to features like geo tagging and a video mode, and it also offers an excellent design with a slick UI and improved performance. Priced at around $600, the iPad 2 received 4 stars out of 5 from PC World Australia but they noted that it has poor quality cameras, no flash support and no memory card slots.
Priced at $470, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 also received a rating of 4 stars and has been heralded as the best Android tablet available today. It is both lighter and thinner than the iPad 2 and also has a larger screen. The Galaxy Tab also offers more features and functions than any of its competitors. However, this tablet lacks external storage and an HDMI-out connection.
According to the PC World ranking of top tablets for 2011, the Galaxy Tab is the only tablet on the market today which presents a viable alternative to the iPad 2.The Galaxy Tab features a 1280 x 800 screen resolution on a large 10.1 inch screen. Select models of this tablet also come with built in 3G, and all models come with the TouchWIZ UX which offers a number of handy features.
The Sony Tablet S Android tablet is writtern as the most comfortable Android tablet to use. It also comes with inbuilt apps that you wont find on another tablet including Twitter and Facebook aggregaters and Sonys' remote control app.
Like the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab, Sony's Tablet S is rated at 4 stars. However, the 16GB version of the Tablet S has a recommended retail price of $579 in Australia.
