Harvey Norman Direct Import Website Unveiled Online

Nothing can be done subtly in the internet world, but it seems Harvey Norman may have almost done the impossible. In a surprise move from Gerry Harvey, who has been known for being against importing games from overseas, Harvey Norman has launched its new Direct Import website just days before Christmas.

Gerry Harvey has said that gamers should take advantage of the discount prices...

The website sells games for consoles such as Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS and Playstation 3 for discounted prices that are GST free. Harvey Norman is using its European suppliers to provide a wide range of genuine video games at extremely low prices and for immediate shipping.

It did not look like Harvey Norman was going to join the online shopping world as Gerry Harvey, Chief Executive, was famously against it and believed that local retailers are at an "unfair advantage, competing against goods from overseas." Along the way he also claimed he would not spend another cent on creating a presence in the online shopping world. However, luckily for many Australians, he has changed his mind.

There is a wide range of game genres available on this website with some including Action, Family, Fighting, Kids, Racing, Simulator and Sports. So it is a great place to find games for young kids and adults who are young at heart. Harvey Norman Direct Import has slashed prices with some games almost 50% less than in store prices. Comparing the prices of the original Harvey Norman website with the Direct Import site, Playstation 3 Assassin's Creed Revelations is $78 in store and $54 from Direct Import. On Xbox 360, Dead Island is $78 in store and $47 online. On Nintendo Wii, Fifa 12 costs $67.88 in store whereas online it is $43.00.

Although Harvey Norman is continuing to sell games in store, Gerry Harvey has said that gamers should take advantage of the discount prices from Harvey Norman Direct Import. So although it is contradicting all the previous statements he has made prior to the Direct Import website launch, it does make the most financial sense. It has also been rumoured that in the future other goods may be added to this site.

The Harvey Norman Direct Import website is very easy to navigate around, especially for those who may not be technologically savvy. There is a search button at the top of the page, so if you know what you are looking for it will only take a few clicks. However, each console game is sorted into different sections (Playstation, Xbox) and then they can be sorted from newest first, priced lowest to highest or from A-Z.

Just like most other online shopping sites, you click the items you want into your shopping basket and go to the checkout. To place an order online, you will need to register for a new login, which only takes a minute or two. If you have an existing login from another Harvey Norman website, it will not work on the Direct Import site.

In regards to shipping and payment, there is a flat freight fee of $3.95 per order for five games or less and as the games are being shipped from the United Kingdom, it will take 7-14 business days after dispatch for them to be delivered. It is important to note that at this stage games cannot be delivered to PO Boxes.

There are a range of payment options, with all games priced in Australian Dollars. Harvey Norman Direct Import accepts Mastercard, Visa, Go Mastercard, AMEX, Diners Club or Paypal. However, at the moment, this website does not accept gift vouchers or store credit.

Refunds can be given if there is a problem or fault with the game, to do this you must contact the support team through a contact form on the website. Harvey Norman Direct Import does not provide a change of mind refund and if you wish to cancel an order, it can only be done before the product is sent to the warehouse for packing.

Harvey Norman Direct Import has become an online saviour for the gaming world and although some people may think Gerry Harvey gave in too easily, the majority of Australians will be hoping other retailers grab hold of this idea and run with it.
