eBay Launches New Online Fashion Store
There’s been a flurry of retail activity over at eBay recently, as top Australian and international fashion brands set up shop in the new eBay fashion store.
It’s the official launch of the new eBay online fashion portal today, the ‘Fashion Gallery’ is a dedicated online fashion shopping destination, with women’s and men’s clothing, shoes, and accessories, from popular fashion brands. Top brand eBay fashion stores have been popping up on eBay for the last month or so, preparing for the big roll out of the new Fashion Gallery that went live today.
The eBay Fashion Gallery is an online department store with new-season and end of season products, deals, and sale items, allowing consumers to buy directly from top Australian and international fashion brands. This is great news for online shoppers, because many of these fashion retailers don’t have their own online stores in Australia — finally you can shop till you drop for the latest fashion deals from the comfort of your own home!
There are 100 popular fashion brands in the Fashion Gallery right now, including Seafolly, Witchery, Bardot, David Lawrence, House of Fraser, Marcs, Ted Baker, Timberland, Adidas, Charlie Brown, Diesel, Jigsaw, Mimco, and more.
With 60% of fashion sales on eBay already in the Fixed Price (Buy It Now) format, and 79% of all fashion sales on eBay for new clothing, shoes, and accessories, the dedicated Fashion Gallery represents another nail in the coffin for auction-style listings. Online auctions used to be all the rage, but in recent years their popularity has waned, and the novelty and thrill of bidding for products, has been replaced by the convenience of a quick purchase at a reasonable price. Consumers are much more savvy when it comes to product pricing nowadays, and they can see that auctions aren’t the bargains they once thought they were. When consumers started to realise that many winning bids for items on eBay exceeded the products value, the novelty of an auction-style purchase wore off quickly.
eBay has also been giving fashion a big push on their US site recently, by extending their existing fashion selection (which is already huge), with the launch of a new online Fashion Outlet shopping destination. They’re promising discounts all year round, from over 30 popular outlet stores. Let’s hope that they also have plans to launch an Australian fashion outlet sometime soon, because clearance stores are very popular here, and everyone loves a good discount off top designer brands!
eBay has changed with the times, and the world’s biggest online auction website is fast becoming an online department store, following in the steps of the worlds largest online retailer Amazon.com.
