Coles will Launch BPA Free Range of Baby Bottles

On Wednesday, Coles moved to a step closer to a totally BPA-free range of baby bottles with news of its own BPA free private label.

Bisphenol A also known as BPA

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used in the manufacture of varying consumer products such as baby bottles. The widespread use of BPA plastic is due to its exceptional properties of being tough, durable, and lightweight. However, concerns about its use in food container products was reported to the media in 2008, after several governments around the world issued reports questioning its safety.

With that said, Coles recently reported in a PDF file media press release, that they will be working with suppliers to phase out any bottles containing BPA, and that their own brand of BPA-free baby bottle range will be available shortly.

"As part of our ongoing commitment to innovation we will continue to develop new products so that parents can make informed and appropriate choices about which bottle to use to feed their babies", Merchandise Director John Durkan, said. "Any parent using existing baby feeding bottles can be reassured that they meet all current relevant safety standards and are considered safe to continue using by following feeding, cleaning and sterilizing instructions."

Coles already have a fair range of BPA-free baby bottles in their online stores, and it's good to see them make a commitment to the health of their customers with a BPA free range of baby products. There's plenty more BPA products out there though, so I look forward to some more conscionable choices from Coles in the future.
