Borders Price Guarantee to Match Amazon.com

In an attempt to encourage more shoppers to buy books from Australian online stores, Borders online bookstore is guaranteeing to price match Amazon.

Competition is always good for Aussie shoppers, but Borders is not the first online bookstore to do this actually, Fishpond has been guaranteeing better prices than Amazon for a long time.

"Borders Australia (borders.com.au) "cheaper than Amazon guaranteed" Promotion
We are so confident that our pricing is competitive with Amazon.com that if you purchase a book from borders.com.au and then find it listed on Amazon.com for a lower price (including shipping costs to an Australian address) then we'll refund the difference plus 10%!!"

The word 'Promotion' above, certainly suggests to me that this is only temporary offer, but it's certainly a welcome one.

Borders Online Australia is owned by REDgroup Retail, and in an article published on Inside Retailing, the RedGroup CEO Dave Fenlon, "said that it was important to resolve the anomaly that it was cheaper to buy a book from the US than it was at home".

Unfortunately there's a long Terms and Conditions to go with this Borders price guarantee promotion, and it makes me wonder exactly how much effort they've really gone too, to make their prices cheaper.

Borders is launching eBooks (in ePub format) and eReaders (for smartphones, PC, Mac & iPad) later this month, and with over 1 million books, magazines and newspapers available, it'll be very interesting to see if their Amazon.com price guarantee extends to Kindle books too.
