Blockbuster Movie Avatar Now on DVD and Blu-Ray
If you haven't seen the "highest grossing movie to date" at the cinemas, don't worry. Retailers around Australia have started to stock the movie on DVD and Blu-ray.
The Avatar movie was released on Blu-ray and regular DVD on April 29th in Australia, and since this release in the US, it's no surprise to see the sales of the DVD and Blu-ray disc breaking records just like the movie did in the cinemas.
According to a report at A Current Affair, the movie has sold more than 1.5 million Blu-Ray copies in the US, out doing the previous record holder, The Dark Knight, at 600,000.
This is all surprising for me. I've seen the movie, and I'm sorry to say the story line isn't much different than any other movie. Similar enough to know what was going to happen with the story line before it happened.
I do believe that the success of this film is based on the 3D features which are awesome! These 3D features however, aren't available in the current DVD and Blu-ray release, and to kill me off actually buying the movie altogether - the DVD and Bluray version only contains the film, no bonus features like deleted scenes, directors comments, production extras, e.t.c
If I haven't put you off buying Avatar on DVD or Blu-ray, JB Hi-Fi are selling a DVD version for $18.98, while WOW Sight & Sound sell the same edition for just $17.95. The Blu-ray versions are a little more expensive at WOW Sight & Sound at $27.95 and JB Hi-Fi are priced at $24.98.
But before you head off and buy the movie, consider renting the movie first at the local DVD rental store, or you could wait until the iTunes rental becomes available in Mid June to watch on your iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV or iPad.
