Tech Too Hard
Do you find new technology hard to understand, or are you a tech savvy online shopper? According to a recent Dick Smith consumer poll, 65% of consumer electronics shoppers don't understand the instruction manuals, or just don't have the time to read them.
Results of the poll show, that 43 percent of respondents find it a challenge to get new technology up and running at home. More than 33 percent of respondents said that technology products have become more complicated in the past ten years and 27 percent believe that using and installing technology will only get more confusing in the future.
Technology products do get more complex over time, but I believe we have access to all the information we need to understand this new technology, on the internet.
There's a huge amount of information online, in the form of text, video and audio -- in fact many manufacturers like Apple don't even include a manual with most of their products, because the best place to learn about your new device is online, in the support section of their website.
Admittedly there's a learning curve, and if you're a bit rusty with modern technology, the curve can be a bit steep to start with, but over time it gets a lot easier, especially as many products have similar features.
Dick Smith is recommending their Mobile Techxpert service for consumers, and I'm sure it's a good service, but if you really want to get the most out of your new tech products, I think you're better off setting them up yourself.
Do your product research online -- understand what you're buying, and how it will connect to the rest of your equipment. You can prepare yourself for the setup, by reading the manual online, before you've even received your new tech product. Make a list of all the cables you're going to need -- perhaps you can even save money by reusing the cables you have.
When it comes to technology, knowledge is power, and if you want to become a tech savvy online shopper, you're going to have to put in some extra time, but I guarantee it'll benefit you in the long run.
