Say Hello to the New Amazon Kindle DX in Australia
With all the excitement over the imminent arrival of the new Apple iPad in Australia, you may not be aware that the Kindle DX e-book reader started shipping to Australia recently. Australian Kindle customers get new books in under 60 seconds, with free 3G wireless, low prices, and over 450,000 books to choose from.
The Kindle DX is a electronic book reader that features 3G wireless, so you can download books from the Amazon book store, right from your Kindle DX; no monthly fees, no annual contracts, and no hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots.
The 24.6cm e-ink screen reads like real paper and boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and sharp images. And being just over 83mm thick, it's as thin as most magazines.
The best feature of the Amazon Kindle wireless reading device, is of course that Amazon have the biggest book collection. With some 450,000 books to choose from, there's plenty to read. Another good feature is that you can read for up to 1 week, on a single battery charge with wireless on, and you can thank the black & white E-Ink screen for that.
There is no touch screen, but that's not something you really need for reading books. Instead the Kindle has a simple button interface for next/previous page, and a Qwerty keyboard to create bookmarks, annotations, and more. There's also a few extras in the software, including built-in dictionary, search features, wireless access to Wikipedia, Read-to-Me features, and adjustable text.
A few months ago, I was considering the Kindle, and for those who don't don't want the complexity of an iPad, I would recommend the Kindle as the best choice for reading your library in one place.
