Panasonic's New Lumix G2 -- The First Interchangeable Lens Camera with Touchscreen

I've been waiting around for a better camera for a while now, until a day or so ago when Panasonic introduced their latest model in the popular Lumix line-up, the Lumix DMC-G2. With this digital camera, you can change lenses, even from different lens manufacturers, and it's the first digital camera to add touchscreen LCD shooting.

Based on the manufacture standard 'Micro Four Thirds System', to make the lenses interchangeable using with different lens manufacturers, the latest G2 Lumix model is dramatically downsized in body and also achieves a small size (just 83.6 x 124 x 74 mm) by adopting a mirrorless design.

The 12.1 megapixel DMC-G2 is the world's first system camera with touch-control shooting. With four AF (auto focus) modes, just touch the LCD to focus on the subject, and the DMC-G2 does the rest -- instantly. You can also operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch on the screen, for a completely new way to take photos.

Panasonic are again offering the very best in features and technology, the DMC-G2 also offers high-definition video recording. Even a beginner can record excellent video with the DMC-G2 using key features including Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S.), Face Detection, Intelligent Exposure and Intelligent Scene Selectors.

With the Lumix G2 Micro System and the growing number of lenses becoming available, the possibilities are unlimited. The Lumix G2 camera offers a wide variety of options to choose from to match every photo situation and photography style.

I have a older Lumix compact camera, so I'm already impressed with Panasonic digital cameras, but I've been lightly looking around for a better camera for about a year, and did on a few occasions think about a digital SLR. What stopped me researching digital SLRs, was the size of them, they are far to big for me to carry around on a day trip, or for an hour on the beach. News of the new generation of digital camera from Panasonic, has sold me completely with a perfect size, and only 371 grams of weight. Now I can get digital SLR quality with the convenience of a compact camera.

The DMC-G2 will be available for sale as body only, single lens kit and twin lens kit. Prices have yet to be announced, however the release is in June.
