Online Department Store Takes Out Top Website Award Again

For the ninth time since 2005, DealsDirect has received the Number one website award from Hitwise, for the most popular website in the Australian online department store category.

Hitwise announces winners of their top ten popular website award twice a year, across 160 different categories. For the period from Jul-Dec 2009, the DealsDirect website received the highest number of user visits, compared to other websites in the online department store category in Australia.

When it comes to Australian online department stores, DealsDirect is certainly getting the lions share of user visits, but many more Australians are shopping at a much bigger online department overseas. According to a recent Experian Hitwise report, Amazon.com gets 29.41% of all Australian visits, followed by DealsDirect with 10.49%, and Catch Of The Day with 10.44%.

I think it's a shame that most Australians are doing their online department store shopping overseas, but it's hard for an Australian store to compete with the behemoth that is Amazon.com.

DealsDirect is doing very well, and you could say they're the 'Amazon.com of Australia', but if they want to narrow that huge user visit gap, they're going to need a much bigger product range.
