Online Grocery Shopping for More Australians

Online grocery shopping must be very popular at Coles.com.au, because their online shopping service is going live all over the country right now. This month alone, online shopping for groceries became a reality for residents of Toowoomba, Tasmania, Darwin and the Top End.

I used a delivery service at Coles 9 years ago. I would walk down to the supermarket and shop, then get the items delivered home for a small fee. It was a great delivery service if I couldn't carry my groceries home.

News of Coles going online is great to see, but for me, living about 50 metres from a Coles supermarket and actually shopping online at Coles, fills me with the guilt of being just plain lazy ;)

With more than 18,000 products, including grocery, fresh produce, bakery, meat and deli products, plus a huge range of weekly specials, Coles will be the first big supermarket to offer an online service in Toowoomba.

The arrival follows the successful introduction of the Coles service in many different areas in Queensland including Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, the Whitsundays and Hamilton Island, and coming soon to Cairns, Townsville and Bunbury.

The web site service also provides a range of useful customer-friendly functions designed to make life easier when shopping online, including "Previous Orders" to help shoppers complete their regular weekly shop of personal favourites, "Budget Shopping" functions by comparing products by unit price, and keeping an eye on the running total.

Coles general manager of online shopping, Keith Louie, said after the successful introduction of coles.com.au in other parts of Australia, Coles was delighted to be launching the new online grocery service to Toowoomba residents.

"We are pleased to offer home deliveries to residents and expect that our customers will enjoy the superior convenience, service, quality and value offered by coles.com.au. Residents will have easy access to hundreds of specials and full visibility of spend when shopping online." Mr Louie said.

It's great to see that the big supermarkets are starting an online store presence across the nation. If not for the convenience of simply shopping from home, the disadvantaged will also benefit from the service as well, with supermarket prices and delivery to your door. It's something that should have been done a long time ago.

Once you land at the Coles online store, all you have to do is enter your postcode, and click on 'start shopping'.
