The Princess Bride Review: The Princess Bride is a funny quirky movie, with a veritable who's who of popular actors and comedians from the 80's. With each chapter I recognised another popular face, including Peter Falk (a.k.a Columbo), Peter Cook, Mel Smith, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Fred Savage (a.k.a Kevin Arnold from 'The Wonder Years'), Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest (a.k.a. Nigel Tufnel from 'Spinal Tap'), and Robin Wright (the future Mrs Wright-Penn!).
The film was originally released in 1987, and it looks a bit dated now, but the clever dialogue, quirky actors and fun adventure more than make up for it. I particularly enjoyed Cary Elwes and Mandy Pantinkin's charismatic performances, especially when they were on screen together.
The Princess Bride is rated PG, which makes it a really fun film for the whole family, it's silly, irreverent and thoroughly entertaining, and you can see why it's become something of a cult film from the 80's. James Murphy 19-12-2009
