Online Shopping for Discount High Definition TV's - LCD and Plasma TV's with HD 720p or Full HD 1080p Resolution
We've been shopping online for discount HDTV's, and found some fantastic bargains for you, from 32 inches right up to huge 65 inch screens. The cheapest price we could find for a Full HD 1080p TV was $1,099 for a 42 inch LCD, and the biggest discount was 51% off the retail price for a 720p 42 inch LCD TV.
It's a bit of a minefield out there when you're choosing an HDTV, so it helps to have a bit of knowledge before you spend heaps of cash on a new TV. When it comes to High Definition TV's there are basically 2 resolutions to choose from today, 720p or 1080p. 720p actually covers 3 native TV resolutions - 1366 x 768, 1280 x 720 and 1024 x 768 pixels. A TV with 1080p resolution equates to 1920 x 1080 pixels, which gives you more than twice the resolution of 720p models.
Full HD Shopping Tip: A TV that supports a 1080p resolution does not necessarily have a native resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080). Always check the actual screen resolution in the specification - some 720p TV's will process a 1080p input signal, but the output will still be 720p.
If you want to buy a TV with the highest resolution possible, then 1080p is the way to go - especially if you plan on investing in a Blu-ray player. If 1080p TV's still look a bit expensive and you want to save a bit of money then choose 720p.
Quick note about HDTV broadcasts: High definition digital TV in Australia is usually broadcast in 1080i or 720p resolution. If the programme being broadcast is in 1080i and you have a 720p TV, the 1080i signal is scaled down - most new 720p TV's will support 1080i input and some also support 1080p input. Most 1080p TV's should be capable of displaying all HDTV input signals.
