Blade Runner 25th Anniversary Final Cut DVD

This month Empire magazine devoted 22 pages to Blade Runner; that's a lot of editorial about one movie so obviously they think it's important.

When I first saw Blade Runner I was only 14, so don't think I really understood what the film was about; however the fantastic visuals were indelibly imprinted into my brain and since then I've always loved Sci-Fi films.

Blade Runner today is viewed as something of a classic; however when it was first released in 1982 it wasn't received very well at all. Directed by Ridley Scott and based on the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' by Philip K. Dick, Blade Runner stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and Sean Young.

I was going to try and summarise the film for you in my own words but I think Wikipedia does it better! "The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019 in which genetically manufactured beings called replicants - visually indistinguishable from adult humans - are used for dangerous and degrading work in Earth's "off-world colonies". Following a small replicant uprising, replicants become illegal on Earth; and specialist police units called "blade runners" are trained to hunt down and "retire" (kill) escaped replicants on Earth. The plot focuses on a brutal and cunning group of replicants hiding in Los Angeles and a semi-retired blade runner, Rick Deckard (Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment." I've probably watched the film about 5 times since then and when the Directors Cut DVD came out in 1992 I finally added Blade Runner to my collection. Usually the 'Directors Cut' is the definitive version of a movie just like the director wanted it in the first place. However, it turns out that wasn't to be the case with Blade Runner; which is why Empire has dedicated 22 pages to the film. A 'Final Cut' version of Blade Runner is going to be released in December. This is what the producer of the DVD Charles De Lauzirika has to say about it "I think anyone interested in Blade Runner will be really thrilled by the depth and breadth of the materials. I'm just trying to present the best Blade Runner possible. One that will satisfy Ridley, and the fans."
